A Letter to My Readers

Dear Readers,

Last week, I flew to Florida to meet two new friends.

We had lots of fun! We did some eating....

We did some writing....

We hung out.

We also had dance parties.

Do you realize how many songs lyrics are secretly about babies? For example, "I want a girl with a short diaper and a LOOOOOOOOOONG blanket." Or, "If I had a boat, I'd go out on the ocean, and if I had a baby, I'd bring her on my boat."

Also, sometimes we howled.

And then, maybe later, we felt a little better.

Despite appearances...

...my new friends don't sleep that much. Frankly, the rest of us are a bit boggled by their stamina.

Seriously. Everyone is boggled.

Now I'm back in Massachusetts. It's quiet here, far away from my new friends.

Quiet and lonely.

*sniff*

How was your week?

Fondly,
Kristin

What a great post. Made me smile and feel that nice mixture of envy and "I'm glad it isn't me."

Kristin,
Thank you for sharing your pictures! You have a wonderful family and beautiful nieces. It looks like you all had such a great time, lack of sleep and all :)

They bring tears to my eyes because they made me remember those days with my own kids, who are now 8,6, and 3. Even for the 3 year old, those precious days seem so long ago. It's a little sad when they grow out of babyhood, but just as amazing when you see what amazing people they grow into next.

Congratulations to all of you!

Kristin! Stop making me cry!

So, SO gorgeous! It looks like it was exhausting and fun...and further proof that it does indeed take a village.

They are so beautiful!

It makes me miss the days when my boys were that small...except they didn't sleep much, either. Maybe I don't miss it as much as I thought I did.

Aww, they are so cute. I love the way you wrote it as if you were with people your age, and you wouldn't know unless you saw the pictures! I'm telling you I'm sitting here in Computer Apps class right now smiling. Hehehe, they just made my day. ;o)

So cute. And so much work. How appropriate that I saw your post today, when my own twins are celebrating their 15th birthday! I remember that infancy stage. The only way I was able to get through it was by telling myself I was training for the Olympics and that I had to put 100% effort into every day, but that it was only temporary. I literally fell asleep at the dinner table one night. It was crazy. But such a joy. Much love and blessings!

Thank you for sharing the beauty of your nieces. It is always nice to see someone else who is enthralled with babies.

Incidentally, my daughter-in-law just informed me that my new grandson is practicing the world's foremost torture on she and my son, sleep depriviation.

Best wishes to your extended family!

Oh, I loved this blog! I cannot WAIT to be an auntie to twins! I loved all of the pictures of you guys passed out in various places. That is so typical of those first few weeks. I laughed out loud. Thanks for making me morning!

Perfection! I think I'm a little bit in love with them... That really looked like the best week ever! *sigh* There is something so ridiculously enticing about watching someone engage in a task (any common task) while holding a baby. I'm at a loss as to explain it, but it's just enticing!

Randomly, I didn't know you were a lefty! I'm a boring righty myself, but lefty's rock!

Thank you, Kristin, for sharing these magnificent pictures. These little darlings are so beautiful and perfect!!!

My youngest baby turns 19 today, and I find myself missing those sweet moments when it is just you and you babe cuddling and cooing and so full of love.

The report has come in that last night I missed a 6-hour-long "screamingly fun" dance party. My outlaw bro-in-law, secret codename: Joe, claims that the babies were then relatively quiet from 1 to 10am, but I think he may have just lost his hearing.

Thanks for all the baby love, everyone :o)

That's a wonderful, beautiful tribute to your new little nieces. How beautiful they are and such lucky little girls to have such a loving family. Every child should be so fortunate. Hopefully you will be able to see them again soon. Thank you so much for sharing these pictures.

You already know how adorable they are so I'll tell you something funny:

My aunt, who had boy twins in May, has that same green baby bed thingie.

Children are so adorable. But exhausting. It was a great post. The cat passes out was the funniest.

Meredith said...

Beyond adorable! Twins are the best (I can say that with complete objectivity, as a twin myself), and babies are the best. Congrats and sympathy hugs for living so far away from the cuteness. I feel your pain, being hundreds of miles from all family. Sigh.

kristin cashore said...

Thanks for the continued good wishes, everyone. Just learned I'll get to see the babies again for a day during my October tour -- yay :o)

They look like 2 twin muffins(And that's saying a lot because i LOVE muffins). I also like the cats and it's funny that i can't compare them with my cats because mine are ALWAYS running all over the place(And they are 5 years. 5. And they still act like they're 2)

P.S. Are you writing another book?
P.P.S. PLEASE POST MORE PICTURES BECAUSE THEY ARE SOOOO CUTE:):):):)
